The 1958 team was led by All-American, All-Big Ten, and Big Ten MVP quarterback Randy Duncan. Duncan, like Chuck Long and Brad Banks, finished second in the voting for the Heisman trophy. Duncan and star runningbacks Bob Jeter and Willie Fleming led a Hawkeye offense that averaged 405 yards a game, the nations highest average.
