Hawkeye Football | Wayback Machine | 1996 Iowa at #10 Penn State

Ah yes, the 1996 Hawkeyes. There are some legendary names from that team. Tom Knight, Sedrick Shaw, Ross Verba, and of course, Tim Dwight.

The 1996 Hawkeyes ended the season at 9-3 (6-2 in the Big Ten) and a #18 ranking. These Hawkeyes finished the season in the Alamo Bowl where they rolled the Texas Tech Red Raiders 27-0. Iowa went on to defeat Penn State and tie for third in the Big Ten but it was Penn State that went to the Fiesta Bowl.

Iowa entered this October 19th match-up with a 4-1 record. Their lone defeat came at the hands of Tulsa. Penn State was 6-1 after falling two weeks prior to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions were ranked as high as #3 going into the OSU match-up and after the loss clung to the top 10 by holding the #10 spot.

Hawkeye Football | Wayback Machine | 2002 #14 Iowa at #8 Michigan

October 26, 2002, a day that Hawkeye fans will remember forever. It was a 10-9 game after a Michigan field goal early in the third quarter and then the Hawkeyes put the foot to the floor and gave Michigan their worst home loss since 1967.

The Hawkeyes arrived at Ann Arbor with a 7-1 record and a perfect 4-0 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines were 6-1 and 3-0 in conference with their lone loss prior to Iowa coming against Notre Dame. Michigan would lose one more game on the season, the regular season finale against eventual National Champion Ohio State. Iowa would lose in the Orange Bowl against USC. Iowa finished the season rated #8 in both polls, Michigan #9.

Hawkeye Football | Wayback Machine | 2004 #9 Wisconsin at #17 Iowa

Our friend, the Hawkeye Historian (on YouTube), did a wonderful job with today's highlight video capturing the build up just before kickoff. Ohio State surprised everyone that day in November when they knocked off #7 rated Michigan. The OSU/Michigan game was decided in the fourth quarter and those of us at Kinnick knew exactly what a win over Wisconsin would mean. A co-Big Ten title for the Hawkeyes.

This is probably my all-time favorite game to have been in attendance. I recall leaving my seat to get down on the field as the clock hit four minutes or so in the fourth quarter. I stood at the edge of the North end zone waiting for the game to end. I also remember rushing the field too soon, there was a penalty or something that stopped the clock and I had to stop around the goal line and head back to wait for 0:00.

The 2004 Hawkeyes were lead by a stingy defense and gutsy quarterback Drew Tate. It was one of Ferentz and O'keefe's finest coaching seasons. They lost nearly every running back on the roster and settled on passing practically every play.

Awesome video, even better memories. Enjoy.

Hawkeye Basketball | Recruiting Prospects Shine in Run-n-Slam All-Star Classic

The All-Iowa Attack/Martin Brothers team became back-to-back champions of the Bill Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam. The 17 and under Attack team is led by North Carolina commit Marcus Paige and also includes Hawkeye hoops recruiting targets Adam Woodbury and Mike Gesell. The full roster is available on the Attack website here.

Woodbury is a three star recruit, per ESPN recruiting profiles. There he is listed at 6'11" but some reports have Adam at 7' to 7'1".

Gesell is a three star recruit, per ESPN's bball recruiting. The 6'1" point guard is from Sioux City, Nebraska and is considered a top priority for Fran McCaffery's squad in 2012.

Here is a recap from the title game:

Woodbury finished the title game with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Adam talked with the Journal Gazette, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and said: “I love coming to this. I’ve been here four times, and I couldn’t ask for much more.”

Here are some of what was being said around Twitter about Woodbury:
@highmajorscoop: Iowa Attack is up 40-25 at the half on Indiana Elite TM Indiana. Adam Woodbury is playing well and finishing around the cup.
@rogerbohnAll iowa attack wins 17u ship at Spiece. Woodbury was a monster on the glass and UNC recruit Marcus Paige got into lane well late.
@ebosshoops: Marcus Paige/Adam Woodbury pick and roll is pretty effective. Hanner Perea struggling mightily to defend it.

@thebballreport: Lot to like with Adam Woodbury, but it's a nice added bonus that he is a very vocal off-the-ball defender.

@HawkeyeReport: Adam Woodbury and Martin Bros/AIA go back to back at Spiece. He says Ohio State and Kansas increase interest.
Marcus Paige was reportedly playing with a bad ankle and Mike Gessel played a bit at the point. Here also is what was said around Twitter about Gessel's game:

@HSbball: PG Mike Geselle has been playing his tail off for Iowa Attack all weekend. If they win he might he tourney MVP
@ebosshoops Mike Gesell has been quietly effective in 2nd half. Steadied All-Iowa when they were uneven and was big in 66-63 win.
